Fish in a Tree by Linda Mullaly Hunt

Fish in a Tree

I read Fish in a Tree on my daughter’s recommendation.  It’s the story of a seventh grader who has dyslexia. Ally is a great storyteller, and her keen observations paint the difficulty and pain of living in a world of readers when you’re not one.

Ally’s world consists of classroom politics and the burden of trying to protect and help her mom while her dad is deployed. Her willingness to risk trusting a new teacher changes her world.

I loved Ally’s perspective, and her unusual metaphors gave me a new vision. Her teacher, Mr. Daniels is a hero.  Highly recommended.
